I’m Steph β†’

I’m the principle doula/owner of The Birth Hive. Since 2015, I’ve been working with expecting families in Delta, Surrey and Richmond to take them from β€œI can’t” to β€œYes-I-Freaking-CAN” to my favourite: β€œYEAH I DID!”

In other words, I ensure a prepared and confident birth and transition to parenthood through in-person support and private childbirth education sessions.

*I believe empowerment comes from within. I help families tap into to their own birth empowerment through functional tools, proactive prep and holistic-minded support.

  • My husband and I appreciated having Stephanie on our pregnancy and birth journey so much. She was always in touch providing resources, information on what to expect, tips and support. One month post partum I still find myself referencing her emails.

When my birth did not go exactly as planned, she adapted along the way to keep things as close to what I had initially wanted as possible. All the while providing so much emotional support to me and standing up for what I wanted.

Thank you so much Stephanie for being you and making such a difference in our birthing journey. We are forever grateful.

  • Steph was the best investment we could have made when it came to our first pregnancy and birthing journey. She was and is a beacon of knowledge and the best advocate you can have when it comes to this crazy thing called birth, especially as first time parents. My husband learned a lot and felt empowered in knowing how to better support me throughout the process. My birth experience took a complete 360 from what we had expected, but we remained calm and informed thanks to Stephanie. She makes you feel empowered no matter what decisions you make regarding your birth choices, and she ensures that you have ALL the information you can have before making a decision, not just the side that most other doulas who I have encountered are partial to. She is the most supportive and excited person to have no matter how you want to birth. Could not recommend her more and I look forward to doing this all again for our second with her!

  • Thinking back on the day our son was born I can recall how anxious I was as well as excited to meet him. Stephanie was very calm and from my water breaking at home to the delivery she was always by my side. I was really thankful to have the prenatal teaching as well through her which was custom to us. I didn’t have to worry about searching for a separate class. I cannot see enough kind words regarding the care and support she gave me. My birth was complicated but the follow up check in really helped my husband and I. She was also able to refer me to a midwife for post-partum care. I was having challenges finding one. This referral saved my life as I suffered post partum eclampsia. Choosing Stephanie as a doula was the best decision I made. She gave me and my husband the extra TLC we needed.

  • I can honestly say I don't think I would have gotten the VBAC I've been hoping for if it wasn't for Stephanie. I had a very traumatic c-section with my first that I did not want to repeat. With this pregnancy, I'd taken the advice of my midwives and online research and decided to go with a doula. After looking online for a while, I found the birth hive and after reading her reviews of other positive VBACs I decided to go with her services. From day one she was attentive and communicative. Listening to me cry and worry with no judgment. On the day I actually went into labor she was there the whole way. Whether it was through text messaging when I didn't even know I was in labor or not to coming to my house at 9:00 p.m. sitting with me in the shower and going through breathing techniques. I can truly say without a shadow of a doubt I would not have gotten the unmedicated VBAC that I had hoped for in my first pregnancy that I got with this one if it wasn't for her attentiveness and her willing to listen. If you are looking for a doula, one who really cares about how you want things to go but will also be honest with you, Hire Stephanie.

I will forever be grateful for the experience I got to have with this birth because of her help. It healed something in me. I didn't know it was broken.

  • It was my first pregnancy and I had heard from friends that hiring a doula was amazing. I thought since I struggle with anxiety that having a doula would be of benefit to my situation. I reached out to The Birth Hive and booked a video chat. I had chatted with another doula, but ultimately chose to go with Steph because I felt that she was full of a lot of knowledge. Our at home pre natal sessions were great! My husband and I learned a lot and I really loved how after talking with Steph my approach to delivery shifted from me wanting to β€œgo with the flow” to me feeling more empowered and creating a birth plan. Fast forward to the delivery..Steph was extremely helpful and coached me through everything. Having her there really helped ease my mind. We can’t thank her enough! I would highly recommend The Birth Hive Doula Services and plan to stay in touch with Steph moving forward.

  • I would not have achieved my VBAC without Steph. My pregnancy went from easy to high risk and complicated, which meant my birth plan of a home birth was no longer an option. Steph helped me come up with a new plan that honoured every thing I wanted in the hospital setting. She was there anytime I felt anxious about new complications or changes that came up. At my labour she made sure my wishes were respected and heard by the birthing team. She was so supportive and made sure everything was done to keep me progressing and working towards my VBAC goal. In the end, my birth was so incredibly healing and wonderful. It was nothing like I planned, and yet everything I needed. Steph was a key part of making that happen and I'll forever be thankful to her.

  • I cannot recommend Stephanie's Birth Prep course enough! My husband and I were so impressed with the content, research and explanation that goes into these sessions. We were able to ask questions freely and received evidence based, non biased information that we feel empowers us to make more informed decisions when it comes to one of the most exciting but daunting times in our lives. I personally appreciated the information geared towards my husband for both labour and postpartum care. I feel he now has better understanding of just how he can help and feel more involved with both labour and baby. Stephanie even helped us create our birth preferences sheet to bring with us for the big day. If you are on the fence, please dive in and sign up for this course - you will not be disappointed!

  • I seriously couldn’t have achieved my unmedicated birth without Stephanie! Investing in her was the best choice I made for my labour. She was organized, responsive, and most importantly confident in me. I never felt like she doubted me and my ability to have an unmedicated birth.

My midwife had informed me that I was stuck at 7/8cm, but Stephanie already had a plan to help me progress and it was a success. For the times I felt like I couldn’t handle the pain anymore, she had other tips and tricks to help me fight through it. She was attentive of my needs and really made me feel taken care of. It was truly a blessing to have her by my side! Thank you again Stephanie! I’m so grateful for your help!

A lot of my days look… well, kinda like this! Besides a doula, I’m a wife and mom to three. My hobbies include staying active and β€œquality checking” whatever candy my kids have on hand. When I’m not attending births, I can often be found on my Peloton (@ me!) or vacuuming - my personal comfort tool!
